“Abortion funding and all”

Fake Catholic Groups Working Overtime for Healthcare Bill

(The following item contains excerpts from a column by Deal W. Hudson published Dec. 14 on InsideCatholic.com.)

It's sad to report, but report we must: The same fake Catholic groups that helped President Barack Obama get elected have rallied to the cause of the health-care bill, abortion funding and all. As reported by LifeNews.com, Catholics United (CU) and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good (CACG) are warning Catholics not to get too hung up on things like federal funding of abortion.

Interviewed by the Christian Science Monitor, CU president Chris Korzen commented, "The wrong thing would be for anyone to be so firmly entrenched in their positions on federal funding of abortion that they're not willing to come to the table and talk about a compromise."

Victoria Kovari, the interim president of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, claimed, "We share all the bishops' concerns," adding that the "difference is [our] feeling that we would be morally remiss if we walked away from all of the health care [reform]. We have to take seriously our call to be about what's good for the whole human family."

In other words, pass the health-care bill, even if it contains abortion funding. This is precisely the kind of proportionalist reasoning that I fear many Catholics are using to brush aside concerns about abortion funding: The evil of abortion, those like Korzen and Kovari argue, is offset by the many benefits of health-care reform.

Catholic teaching explicitly rejects such self-justifying tactics (see Veritatis Splendor 75), and the U.S. bishops have been unwavering on this point. As Richard Doerflinger, associate director of the USCCB Pro-Life Secretariat, remarks in the same CSM article, "There are moral absolutes that we can't get beyond."

I am grateful that California Catholic has pointed out that these pseudo-Catholic groups are just Obama support organizations. They helped elect him by convincing Catholics that Obama would reduce abortion while still maintaining the right to an abortion. Chris Korzen was a long time activist for SEIU. Their sister organization is Catholic in Alliance for the Common Good--which is a 501c and thus able to take tax deductable donations from George Soros (he has given them hundreds of thousands of dollars. Kovari just came to Catholics in Alliance when its former director, Alexia Kelley went to work at the White House in the Office of Faith Based Programs. Kovari's last job was at Gamaliel - another Alinsky group (that has in the past been funded by the Bishops' Campaign for Human Development). Both organizations have pushed for "common ground" on abortion - one that involves "reducing the number of abortions" while refusing to restrict the right to abortion. Not exactly common ground.

All of us, including the fake Catholics, will have to answer for our actions some day. It is just so sad that millions more babies will be murdered because of these fake Catholics selling their souls to satan. There can be no "compromise" when it comes to the sanctity of life!! True Catholics must not lose hope in the dark days to come,we must be willing to stand up for our faith even if it means doing things that cause us to leave our comfort zones. It is past time for those who truly believe in the teachings of Christ's Church to be counted.God Bless

And you shall know them by their fruits. Every good tree bears good fruit. Every bad tree bears bad fruit. If this healthcare bill passes, by 2016, 80% of our gross national product will be unsustainable entitlements. God bless America, preserve us from the Culture of Death and the statists who wish to gain control of our bodies. Give me liberty, not tyranny!

Okay, let's compromise. You want to kill 30,000 babies. I think that killing babies is wrong. I'll meet you halfway. How about you kill only 15,000 babies instead. Is that a deal?

There are many issues, including abortion, negatively affecting life and the family. Health is anything Obama says it is - social, moral, economic and mental. Universal means total government control of the individual's life.Prevention is a ruse to control reproduction, politically socialize communities and take over the corporate and educational worlds. The health care bill will complete the surrender of life, liberty and happiness to centralized control and away from God's salvific mercy .

Ski Ven, are you flirting with conspiracy to commit abortion? Say, what you're putting up reminds me somewhat of the story with King Solomon and the two women, one a whore and the other the actual mother of the infant. The whore is claiming the baby. Solomon, seated in the judgment seat, does not know who the real mother is. So he commands one of his guards to slice the baby in half, so that each claimant can have part of it. Just before the guard commits the deed, the real mother cries out for the whore to take the live baby. Solomon then gives the baby to the real mother, knowing at that moment who she is. The whore is sent packing, likely to conjure up more infamous deeds.

I wonder how the top onehundred oldest people would vote on the health bill run by government. Over the decades I've looked at various govt publications on health. I'd give govt a "B-" grade. What is the average age at death of senators and congressmen and women? What is the average age of death of various other sectors of society? Who then knows best how to live a long life? Let's examine reality and not trust our lives and well being to the govt theorist/politician/business cartels.

Has any American bishop publicly exposed these Obama groups?

Health is not the issue, so eliminating abortion funding will not make a difference. The issue is power and control.

WHETHER THEY DECIDE TO KEEP KILLING BABIES OR NOT, we, not the "fake Catholics"(thanks for the words,Ron), are NEVER going to be able to stop fighting against the war of evil! It may be at another time or place, or take place at the same time and place, but our grace will keep us active.

I was pointing out a flaw in this compromise idea.

Advent has arrived. This is a period much like Lent when Catholics before Vatican II prepared for the coming of Christ at Christmas whereas in Lent they prepared for His Passion and ultimately His Ressurection at Easter. In both periods while praying world-wide the One-and-Only St. Pope Pius the Vth decreed standard Tridentine Latin Mass (TLM) the bishops and priests wore purple vestments to signify the waiting and preparations that must take place for each of these greatest of events in the history of mankind. The waiting and preparations were mainly for the situating of Catholics souls of the time into a higher state of Sanctifying Grace to better prepare to adorn our Savior and please Him everso much. Unfortunately much of that has faded, Christmas has become commercialized to a greater degree, and the day after Christmas, many a household's trees are disgarded in the dumpsters or drop zones. Before Vatican II many Catholics celebrated Christmas all the way through Epiphany, the 6th of January. Some families in fact opened gifts throughout the 12 days of Christmas not just on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. Remember that? Midnight Mass (TLM) started at Midnight Christmas morning, not at 5 or 7 pm on Christmas Eve as I heard from some willing, bragging, and delighted modern Norvus Ordo Catholics. What a sad charade and it only undermines the real reason for worshipping our Lord and Savior on this very Holy Day. I pray that you will not insult Him, disobey nor defy His Holy Will; and rather that you will be blessed by our Heavenly Father with all the Sanctifying Graces you need to seek, find, and have the courage to get onto the right road to His Holy Kingdom. So many tens of millions have lost the Catholic faith and are clueless or they just don't care about their souls. In preparation for Christmas don't forget to go to Confession at least once to clear your soul, and to receive Him in the Holy Eucharist. Pray for world peace and for God to rescue of our Nation from the socialist and agnostic abyss it is sliding into. Pray 15 times daily: Hail and Blessed be the hour and the moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Blessed Vir

If bishops don't begin to publically excommunicate the leaders of these pseudo-Catholic groups these issues will continue to kill the Catholic Faith in America.

Thanks Br. Sebastian for reminding us to live up to the responsibilities that are commensurate with being adopted children of God. The next time I go to confession it will probably take me a while, but it's worth it.

The biggest problem is that the health care bill will NOT "fix" anything! There are three primary problems (1) the insurance companies are sucking up too much of the health care dollars, and (2) the drug companies are allowed to rip off patients with outrageous returns! (Have you looked at their stock lately?) and (3) executive pay is out of control! The biggest problem is that insurance companies, and the new bill will only make it WORSE! The insurance companies are paying off Obama and congress to continue to allow their immoral profits! In most countries, the insurance companies take less than 5% whereas in the USA it's between 40% and 60% depending on how you calculate it! The biggest problem is that ALL government programs PAY insurance companies to "administer" the programs...and as with ALL government programs the cost are out of sight! (Per the 1972 video, the insurance companies "save" money by denying care!) We need to remove the insurance companies from ALL government programs and do things the way we did 50 years ago! The bottom line is that Obamacare is just as big of a fraud as the stimulus program! Unless it "fixes' the problems, it only will add to them!

The failure of the Church leadership to excommunicate those involved with heretic organizations and to immediately dissociate the church with those organizations is INSANE as well as irresponsible. For them to fail to respond makes the church appear to be hypocritical and weak! They certainly are NOT exhibiting "Christ-like" behavior, as Christ would never allow such evil to be associated with His Church! ALL "true" Catholics need to apply the intense pressure upon the church leadership to force them to meet their sacred obligations. Anything less is insulting to God!

Brother Sebastian: Although I trust not intended, your post disappoints in its lack of ambition. You urge us to pray that God rescue America "from the socialist and agnostic abyss" when what needs to be prayed for is America's conversion to Catholic Christianity. You urge us to "pray for world peace" when what is needed is that we pray for episcopal and lay compliance with Our Lady of Fatima's requests. (Without this compliance, the prospect of world peace cannot be secured.) You urge us to pray 15 times a day when St. Paul urges us to pray always in all things we do, and Our Lady invites us to pray the Rosary devotionally and daily in view of the triumph of her Immaculate Heart.

In reply to John: You raise the right question -- you ask, in effect, what has been the response of bishops to SELF-STYLED Catholic advocacy groups. Still, a certain anti-episcopal tonality pulls you in the direction of asking -- exasperatedly -- whether "any American bishop" has publicly exposed such groups. REPLY: (1) They ALL have. ~ To explain: The canon law of the Catholic Church, which local ordinaries are commissioned to apply, requires that episcopal permission be granted as prerequisite to the use of the name Catholic. For a lay advocacy group NOT to secure such episcopal permission always already exposes that group as having involved itself in CATHOLIC-NAME MISAVAILMENT -- per the American episcopate as a whole. (2) From within this perspective, it is the job of the laity to bring the matter of misappropriating the Catholic name to the attention of local ordinaries. (3) What we've seen instead, however, is the phenomenon of lay persons proceeding quite as if the matter of Catholic-name use did not fall within the jurisdiction of local ordinaries. What we've seen instead is the phenomenon of lay persons proceeding as if the matter of Catholic-name use were solely a matter of lay LATERAL INTERVENTION -- yes, as if the question of use of the Catholic name were a question with no jurisdictional, no canonical, context.
