“Cool it!”

San Diego bishop asks outspoken priest to exercise restraint in Obama criticism

San Diego Bishop Robert Brom has asked an outspoken Escondido priest to tone down his fierce criticism of the Obama Administration, prompting supporters of the priest to launch a letter-writing campaign to the bishop on his behalf.

On Feb. 11, California Catholic Daily reprinted an article – “100 Days or End of Days?” -- from the parish bulletin of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Escondido written by Pastor Richard Perozich. In the article, Fr. Perozich warned that “evil has acceded to power” in the Obama Administration. (To see the article behind the controversy, Click Here.)

Sources at St. Mary’s told California Catholic Daily that a family from the parish-administered St. Mary’s School had complained to the chancery about the article. An intermediary, acting on behalf of Bishop Brom, then contacted Fr. Perozich by telephone, sources said, and told him to “cool it.” Aside from that single complaint, sources said, “the overwhelming opinion of parishioners has been favorable.”

Upon learning that Fr. Perozich had been asked to tone down his future remarks, supporters decided to begin a letter-writing campaign to Bishop Brom. The bishop, said Allyson Smith of El Cajon, “needs to hear from Catholics who appreciate Father Perozich's essay and his bold defense of the truth. Please write to Bishop Brom to express your appreciation of Father Perozich and his essay.”

In her own Feb. 18 letter to Bishop Brom, Smith wrote, “I write to commend Father Richard Perozich, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido, for his February 1 hard-hitting church bulletin essay ‘100 Days or End of Days.’ In his essay, Father Perozich, an exemplary shepherd, courageously and rightfully warned his flock of our nation's dire fate under the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, pro-euthanasia, pro-socialist, pro-death administration of Barack Obama. Father Perozich truthfully wrote, ‘Abominations will be forced on us by the new government, such as which our founders never had intended, and certainly opposed to the Christian life: abortion on demand, homogenital sex, lust in all its forms, euthanasia, oppression of opportunity and entrepreneurs, silencing of faith and free speech among many.’ Furthermore, in his essay, Father Perozich ‘named names’ of powerful United States so-called ‘Catholic’ senators Edward Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi (who was verbally ‘spanked’ by Pope Benedict today for her pro-abortion views). God bless and thank him for that! Father Perozich is absolutely correct in his assessment of our evil new government. We need many more courageous priests like him who do not care about human respect but instead preach the truth ‘in season and out.’”

California Catholic Daily contacted Fr. Perozich by email to ask him about the letter-writing campaign to the bishop. “People have the right to approach their sacred pastors [bishops], and when they feel a priest has failed or succeeded, they may do so,” said Fr. Perozich in a brief response. “Too often only negative criticism comes when one disagrees, but the praise of goodness fails to reach the bishop.”

I just sent the following letter to Bishop Brom: February 23, 2009 Most Reverend Robert H. Brom Bishop of San Diego P. O. Box 85728 San Diego, CA 92186 Dear Bishop Brom, As a former parishioner in San Diego with family still living there, I am saddened by your suppression of First Amendment rights. The devil is in the details. Fr. Richard Perozich has brought the details into the light. Your response called for darkness or at least shades of gray. The evil inside of our Church is assisting the evil in our government to change our country forever. Maranatha!

Let me get this straight. One complaint from a voice on the dark side gets action, but thousands of voices from true Catholics almost never get recognized. Seems to me something is amiss. God Bless

The California bishops strike again. I recall here in the Fresno diocese, an associate read the 2004 letter written by then Cardinal Ratzinger regarding catholic voting. The pastor made the associate"reword" his instructions to the faithful. So the pastor knew more than the current Holy Father? Well this pastor was recently given the title of Monsignor only causing scandel to the faithful. The California bishops have long been apparatchiks for the democratic party I pray God, Fr. Perozich is made the next bishop of Fresno,

With the attacks on morality being conducted by this administration we need is more outspoken bishops and priests rather restraint. It is restraint that has allowed people like Pelosi, Kennedy, Biden Kerry, etal, to flaunt their own catholic teaching and lead us all to perdition. God Bless Father Richard Perozich.

Uncomfortable truths to many. We need to hear more and more of this truth, especially about the culture of death administration since so many lives are at stake. I wonder if anyone will complain about this action of contacting the Bishop?

Posted Monday, February 23, 2009 5:45 AM By St. Christopher
Another surprise -- a Catholic priest, in CA no less, that lives his faith. And then a not-surprise: a spanking by the local bishop. Father Perozich should turn up the heat, both on President Obama and on his bishop. In any event, I suppose that Father Perozich will continue in what he does, as that is the duty and burden of a moral man. He will be further punished for it.

Many priests that were dong nothing but telling the truth have been silenced over the centuries by their bishops, Padre Pio and Bishop Sheen come to mind. I hope the letter campaign succeeds as lay people should defend the truth. Even so, the priest should be obedient to his bishop, even if the bishop may be wrong in our opinion.

God bless Fr. Perozich! We need more "heros" in the pro-life, pro-natural death, and pro-freedom movements. May the Lord continue to bless him and give him courage and cover him with the Precious Blood of Jesus. Keep up the tireless fight against evil. To all those so-called Catholics who voted for Obama will be crying in about 5-6 months when they see the repercussions of their vote and lack of conscious.

Thank God we still have some good priests and bishops who are not afraid of speaking the truth. I will make it a point to pray daily for Fr. Perozich that he never loses his ability or strenght to fight the good fight as Paul had to do in his time. I thank Fr Perozich and Pope Benedict for not caving into the the liberal theology which goes against everything the Church is built on and stands for. Shame on any Bishop or priest who will be quiet or preach a different gospel for fear of losing money in the collecion basket. A priest is there to speak the truth not win popularity contests. Those who do not want to hear the truth should leave the church, not expect the church to change for their warped desires.

May God and the Holy Spirit continue to be with Father Perozich. This current administration in Washington DC is crushing the American spirit and will be the demise of this once great nation.

This is indeed strange behavior coming from the bishop of San Diego.

Posted Monday, February 23, 2009 7:42 AM By Janek
If only Father Perozich was a LIBERAL priest attacking a conservitive president all would be fine, but Father is conservitive and also says the Latin Mass at his parish so this needs no further explanation than that!! Gee a priest that really does take his Holy vocation to heart yet is told to "cool it."

It is a sad day when good has to take a back seat to evil. For 50 years we have been told to be tolerant of others views they have a right to their opinion. But now they have abused our tolerance and have enacted laws that stifle and degrade people of honor and morals. They are now in control and are not very tolerant of us. Our bishops must realize that silence will not save us. The enemy will be satisfied only with the removal of God from our society. Look at the absurd laws they have passed and the more absurd laws they are proposing, all aimed at degrading family and morals. Our bishops must also face the fact that they must prepare us for the coming of Jesus and they will need to embrace hardships to do that.

This situation is just another example of how the Bishops of the church have caused most of our many problems by being unwilling to take a strong stand on what is right. As Father Corapi says on Catholic Radio, Christ is truth and like it or not truth is what we should be all about. The fact that Obama was the choice of over 50% of Catholics tells us one thing - that Catholcs don't know their religion and the responsibility of teaching the faith belongs with the Bishops. Fathr Richard gives us hope that what we expierenced in the past will give way to new leadership.

Go Fr. Richard This culture needs the fierce message of John the Baptist and too few priests are willing to proclaim it. Truly "horror of sin" is lost to this culture and even clergy. These days are evil and many are on the path to hell because they (and many clergy) do not believe there is a hell. Clergy must proclaim a strong message of love and salvation and ,at the same time, a strong warning to souls who are in danger of being separated from God forever. Poor people who have no idea of where they are destined! Keep crying out in the wilderness Fr. for those lost ones who might hear. God Bless you!

At least one priest in California is doing his duty! Apparently we don't yet know exactly what the Bishop's reaction was, but it appears from the above article, that he (the bishop) is more concerned with placating the complainer(s) than with acknowledging the truth of what Fr. Perozich said or wrote. The implication seems to be that Fr. P,s writing is the cause of the problem and he must be quieted before he aggravates it further. A responsible bishop would answer the complainer(s) by pointing out that the priest simply spoke the Word of God as it applies to the situation we live in today, and that if, in doing so, he offended anyone, the problem lies with them, not him. Perhaps the bishop did that or intends to do it. Let us all pray that will turn out to be the case, and let us convey our prayerful concerns to Bishop Brom.

Way to go, Fr. You have the courage of your convictons!!!! I'll keep you in my prayers for, I can see that you are another John the Baptist...a lone voice in the wilderness!!!

God Bless Fr. Prozich. We need more priests across the U.S. and Canada that will speak the truth. There is no unity among the priests and bishops. The majority or our shepherds simply refuse to speak about abortion and homosexuality right from the pulpits. Most of the laity have been brainwashed into believing that this woiuld be a judgement call.

It is a sad day indeed when a member of the clergy is silenced for speaking out about what he feels is the truth. I agree with Father Perozich's statement as do many others. May God bless him for his courage.

Kudos to Fr. Richard Perozich for his courage to tell the truth to his parishioners. He is helping his flock to see the truth about our present administration in D.C. It is not just his opinion, it is truth. Some folks cannot stand the truth.

Posted Monday, February 23, 2009 9:13 AM By George Kadlec
It is better to speak out while you still can because the time may come when you cannot speak out. The truth is offensive to many people but lies are not. This is a courageous priest. Matthew 10:34 states "Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. A few G.K. Chesterton quotes: "I believe in getting into hot water; it keeps you clean." “There are an infinite number of ways to fall, but there is only one way to stand.” “Be careful not to be so open-minded that your brains fall out.” "I want a church that moves the world not one that moves with it." "Once abolish the God, and the government becomes the God." "Only a live fish can swim against the current, the dead go with it."

Good for courage of Fr. Perozich and the supportive congregation of St. Mary"s Catholic Church....all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to remain silent and do nothing. Unfortunately, our silence condones and encourages bad behavior rather than deflect such. Many people I am certain agree with the priests' view but are fearful to voice their opinions. The most important thing we can do now is to pray that all the "planks" be removed from each of us.... for prayer can and does move mountains. A time will come soon where there can be no lukewarmness.....either you are for God or you are against God......there will be no in between as there is presently. We need the guidance and courage of our bishops to speak up and be the shepherds they were appointed to be. mary's Catholic Church

Father Arthur Holguin of the OC Diocese is elevated to Monsignor by Bishop Brown after supporting pro-abortion Presidential candidate and Father Perozich is criticized by SD Bishop Brom for illustrating the dangers of pro-abortion socialist President. Such is the state of the American "Catholic" Church.

Like Bush was not an evil, vile President and head of the most freedom ruining government in the USA? Besides his one good deed of being Pro-life, Bush instituted torture and indefinite imprisoning for hundreds if not thousands. Bush and the neo-cons did everything to make corporations have the lowest taxes, tax haven, and environmental rights to rape the land and to control the government with uncontrolled lobbyist. The neo-cons paid lip service to the Pro-life groups to grab their votes but did next to nothing to effect change or stop abortion, and hurt the common man by doing everything to cut services to the poorest of the poor. They spied on Americans and made it illegal to have free speech by manner of protesting. Obama may have serious problems and I am hoping by continued public outrage we can stop abortion, but I rather someone who at least looks at people who make below 100grand a year as human then ones who think only millionaires on the right list deserve rights and protections.

Thank you, Father Perozich for standing up and speaking the truth, that sadly most Bishops cannot or will not do. Hard to believe that Bishop Brom wants Father P. to "cool it"... that is the problem... the Bishops have cooled it and not stepped up to defend our religious beliefs. I wish we had many many more priests like Father P., especially out of the state of CA... May God continue to Bless you Father P.

We need to pray for an outpouring of the GRACE of GOD on ALL of these people - and that HE continues to shower us with the same grace. I shudder to think where I would be today if this had not happened to me. I always think I would not have done these awful things but then I am reminded that without Christ I can do nothing - as in OOOOOO=nothing. Let us join in prayer for these men and women to have wisdom, knowledge and discernment and beg the Lord to stir up in them a remembrance of their Catechism.

My grandfather told me a long time ago to "watch what people do" as well as what they say. If they don't match then you know you can't trust them. I think we can trust Barack Obama. His record shows he believes in abortion, same sex marriage, cloning, embryonic stem cell research, Fabian Socialism, class warfare, and so much more. His actions, past and present, prove that. I applaud the Father for standing up and fighting this. I do as well.

Sounds like the family who complained about the good Fr. should do themselves a favor & move on to a different community. Unfortunately they will have quite a stock to choose from, as there are many priests who preach what they believe is popular to hear. Fr. P. is unique in that he supports the teachings of our Church. Could Bishop Brom & staff please turn their attention towards visiting & writing the many priests in our Diocese who don't?

Sometimes you have to stand up for what is right and just and true. I recall that Jesus did this -- and was offered the cross, which he took upon Himself for us all. Yes, we do need to pray for all of our priests and for our bishops, and for all Catholic Christians. This is a challenging time when courage and prayer and strength are needed.

As long as Father Perozich is promoting the teachings of the Magisterium I say Go man go! Too many Catholics have been lost for too long because of ambiguity on these pro-life issues and apathy in citizenship. It is time to WAKE-UP and for us, as Catholics, to wake the nation up!!!

Thank you Father Perozich, for being a true shepherd in leading your flock. Continue to be brave in Christ as was Saint Thomas More. Catholicism is being battered from inside and outside the Catholic Church. This is the season of prayer, almsgiving and fast. Christ suffered attacks from the devil, as will be declared in readings during the Season of Lent; can we as Catholics and can pastors expect anything different? Christ is our strength; in him let us find our truth and peace. In charity let us be disciples of Christ Jesus, in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

When Father was just criticizing his pro-abortion, pro homosexual agenda he was on solid ground. The socialist rantings just went off the rails, especially with the Pope criticizing Capitalism as being frequently unjust. The Catholic Church does not have an issue with more liberal economic policy, only certain "fringe" elements such as those that frequent this blog,

When St. John the Baptist pricked the consciences of many, he was beheaded for not "toning it down." Today, if you prick the consciences of fellow Catholics, you are chastised even by those who have been Apostolically charged with a greater responsibility for souls. The truth is now being referred to as being **outspoken.** The truth needs to be toned down so evil-doers and supporters of evil-doing are not offended. May St. John the Baptist, a beautiful example of a voice in the wilderness, intercede with love, protection and blessings on behalf of all faithful priests who are willing to toil in the desert and also prepare the **truthful** way to salvation.

Another letter to write, lets flood Bishop Brom with letters in defense for this wonderful priest. This lent season, it would be considered our alms giving. Hey if we take away an hour away from watching tv and replacing that hour with writing to our Pope and Bishop regards this good priest or other good issues in defense of our faith, then we have a great lent offering.

Is it no wonder why lifelong Catholics are leaving the Church or not attending Mass anymore. My Church is in my heart, not a building. The bishops have lost the ability to lead with the wisdom of Christ and the Apostles. They hold their fingers to the wind to see which way it is blowing or they make non-committal bleatings from the pulpit or in letters. Father Perozich is strong to his beliefs.and not hesitant to express them. The Church needs more men and women to assume such leadership.

Posted Monday, February 23, 2009 3:32 PM By Almond Milk
John what I discovered is that politics are politics. You posted "It doesn't matter who we elect. In the end the results are the same.." The reason we have the same results it is because the President does not have all the power. People think that one president will change things, people wanted change and thought that Obama would be their hope, but they were fooled because the system that we hold does not permit change it only permits corruption. Bush is pro-life but no matter how hard he tried, it was the liberals in power that ultimately had more power than the President. Bush only slowed down the liberal agenda, now Obama will expand it and raise it up to new levels. We are outgunned, period!

This priest is saying the truth about the current government in the U.S. The democratic party is a party of death. It clearly states in Proverbs that God made everything. God knew you even before you were in the womb. God's love is beyond what the human mind can comprehend. It says this allot in the old testament. Knowledge is key here. There is a greater evil behind the current administration under Obama. People need to pray for the U.S and for those who are lost. Pray for them to find Jesus in their hearts. For through Jesus he offers an ocean of mercy.

Fr. Richard is a priest pleasing to the heart of God. Father, thanks for the courage to speak the truth baised on the Word of God. "Humility is truth" said Mother Teresa. The message of truth has been told. Now even in the face of adversity, all priests have made vows at ordination to obey their Bishops. God is in charge in all situations, what do we have to fear when we are obedient. Jesus is the victor in the end. Let us pray for our priests. All those of us who will speak the truth in the name of Jesus will be persecuted. Jesus said"blessed are they" and priests like you Fr. Richard.

Jemmin, hate to tell you, but now one long term US Senator is challenging the natural born qualification required for the office of president. These senior senators do not go out on limbs ... he's got something on Obama in this regard. So, Obama will either have to show his legal birth certificate or continually serve the Republicans who challenge his legitimacy. In other words, if he doesn't, then he compromises his authority. Odds are that Obama is not a natural born US citizen, and therefore his presidency is invalid, ie illegal.

I am so disappointed in hearing about Bishop Brom and what he told Fr. Perozich. The battle we are fighting for has nothing to do with what the Catholic Church will gain... financially or otherwise. I believe that politics are taking over our church and their staff. Major heartbreak for those of us who care deeply about what Jesus Christ died for. He died so that all these unborn have a place in heaven, because of the sins of the parents. We need to educate the most vulnerable with the teachings of our church and not what one Bishop or two or more, even have to say about being quiet at the pulpit. The days are coming to an end, when there will be no church at all. What else would we be fighting for? God Bless each and everyone of us.

I read the article. He probably should have toned it down. "Socialism is our god, and Obama is his prophet" is a bit over the top for a parish bulletin. One can be faithful to the teachings of the Church and resist abortion and other evils without turning a weekly instruction into a rant.

I comment Fr. Richard Perozich on his courage and encourage Bishop Brom to shepard his flock. These are evil times for this country. We have an administration of people that have demonstrated a lack of concern for the law and a penchant for abortion, the gay agenda etc. that portent a serious decline in the moral fabric of this nation. If the church does not stand up, we will surely join the Roman Empire as another power that rotted from within and disappeared from the earth. We have an equally corrupt press that is also an instrument for this moral degeration so that many people will not know what to do without sound church guidance toward their moral and community responsibilities.

Gary Huber no it is not over the top! It is the truth. Lukewarm attitude leads to such comments like yours. A priest can be poetic when he is trying to convey truths. This priest is a hero of what this church is lacking from a lot of priests now a days. It takes guts to lead. Many lack that.

I find it incredible that a bishop should discipline a priest for speaking the truth. Haven't we had enough political correctness? Abortion is a grave sin that cannot be tolerated. The hierarchy of the Catholic Church should be ashamed that it has allowed Pelosi, Kennedy, Biden, Schwartzenegger, and others of their ilk to call themselves Catholics. Enough!

This volume of comments against President Obama is very disappointing. I am a daily Mass goer, and I voted for Obama. The consistent life ethic preached by the official Catholic Church demands that we resist war in all of its forms. The Republican candidate said he would continue the war if it took 100 years. How could Catholics vote for him? Obama's policy of talking to the difficult governments is exactly what Jesus would do. I do not believe in abortion, but that is not the only issue facing us. Abortion will not be stopped by a law, but by the conversion of those seeking the abortions. If all of you who make abortion your main issue would take in a single pregnant woman and help her through her pregnancy, the number of abortions would be very low. Believe me on this point because 25 years ago I took in a pregnant woman into my house. Her baby, who is my Godson, went through Penn State and is now working at a job where he places poor women out of work into productive jobs. So stop complaining about Obama, and put your money and your houses where your mouth is.

Fr. Perozich I pray for God's blessings and protection for you. Thank you for speaking up against the great evil of our day. If the church does not stand up to evil, it will consume us. For over 2 yrs prior to the election it was known what evil is on the way and yet too great of a majority of the clergy were silent and bishops urging silence so that their precious non-profit status would not be threatened and so it continues. It is so sad to see how much our church has conformed to the godless, void of morals secular world. Fr. Perozich continue to preach and teach your people of sin and evil so that we can open our hearts and minds to God's ways and follow His path of salvation with Jesus our Redeemer. May our Lord's peace and joy be with you always!!!

I have written Bishop Brom in support of his request of Fr. Perozich to tone down his criticism of President Obama. Is it not strange that Fr. Perozich was not very vociferous in condeming President Bush for initiating and continuing an unjust and immoral war (that was condemned by Pope Paul II) that has result in the deaths of many innocent civilians?

Truly it’s time for the Bishops of America to stop pretending to be shepherds of the faith among god’s people with messages to the flock that merely reflect “concern”, “regret” and “dismay” at the heretical behavior or extreme positions taken by catholic politicians and their “prominent” catholic supporters which betray the teachings of the church. Recently when Nancy Pelosi told a reporter that (her) church was not sure when life begins and that it was “debatable” only about 20 of the approximately 150 catholic members of congress willingly signed a letter of admonition to her. And to realize that these officials are continually reelected by large portions of catholic laity speaks volumes for the guidance they are receiving. Add to this the fact that we are closing parish schools at a record pace and there is little or no voice in Washington on behalf of VOUCHERS coming from the largest single religious group (29% catholic) of representatives. Compassion needed for catholic education and faith based initiatives is saved for secular approved issues like gay “rights” or hoped for embryonic research or cloning for medical technology. Need I say more? “Martyrdom” needs to be revived in the political arena and a part of our faith life so that the people can witness for themselves that our eternal souls are of more value than political capitol, catechetical compromise, or “apostolic” appeasement. May the Lord have mercy on us if we choose otherwise!

Isn't it sad that every one of these positive comments in favor of Fr. Perozich, could have been a positive comment in favor of Bishop Brom, had he only been the one who prompted them through his own forthright words. And it is still not too late. Stand up, Bishop! Speak! Act! It is a simple act of will. We MUST speak up! Use the right or LOSE it! It may be that calamity does not befall us in the end, but if it threatens we MUST challange it or suffer the consequences unresisted. That is not an option.

"Oh, no,"said the bishops after the election. "The sky has fallen, we must stop the passage of FOCA." And whose fault was that. They knew in advance and failed to effectively warn their flock what a vote for Obama really meant. The battle has been openly engaged, but the war is not yet won. Much of the liberal agenda will be implemented incrementally, which mean we have an obligation to oppose and defeat it. Vigilance and truth are constantly required. Bishop Brom deserves a copy of these responses. AND DID THE GOOD BISHOP ASK FOR THE COMPLAINEE'S VIEWS ON ABORTION, EUTHANASIA, BIRTH CONTROL, HOMOSEXUALITY, ETC.?

Posted Tuesday, February 24, 2009 12:18 PM By Rob Gruning
Thank you Fr. Perozich. Your statements speak to a truth that can not be ignored. Unfortunately, truths usually bring us to facts which are not always kind, but are somewhat brutal. There is an underlying message in Fr. Perozich's message, which can not be ignored and that message is that we, the people of faith of the Church can be silent no more. For if we are silent, we may be facing our last chance to be heard. We may do this by bringing the Gospel more openly into everyday life and living openly the "Greatest Commandment", loving our Lord with all our hearts, minds and souls and our neighbors as our self. For those who are compelled to do so, peaceably through dialogue, we must defend the Faith as it is warranted. Last time I checked we have freedom of speech rights and freedom of religion rights that are protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. So as free tax paying citizens in a free country we have a responsibility to respond at the proper moment with a loving, kind and understanding attitude. I only can hope that our voice will be heard all the way from our homes to our parish's, from our parish's to our Presbyters, from our Presbyters to our Bishops, from our Bishops to the Cardinals and to the Pope. So that the Church may heard and in response that the church may be lead us by the wisdom of our Holy Father, the Holy Scripture, our Holy Tradition, the Magestrerium and the action of the Holy Spirit sent by the Father and the Son our Holy Trinity. May God Bless you!

M. Ziegler -- My four-year-old daughter once told me, "Maybe if you listened harder to what Jesus is trying to tell you, you'd feel better." The daily Eucharist (if you are "listening") should be enlightening you to the fact that abortion is THE KEY eliminator of peace on this earth today? And are you aware that President Obama is sending 17,000 troops to Afghanistan? Don't you think American soldiers will die there too? He's not anti-war. He's a fraud in every way. And anyone who encourages through law the killing of the most innocent of human beings on this earth is certainly traveling with Satan, not God. You cannot see that? He is the biggest war monger we've ever had in office. Kill, kill, kill the babies and DESTROY their mothers in the process as well. I, too, am a daily Masser, and I am pained by your remarks.

I live in Idaho. The previous and current bishop were from California. Neither one has ever stood up for the pro life issue. They remain mum. They both looked the other when the abuse of children was taking place. Neither was vocal about not voting for a pro abortion president.

God bless the good father. If we had more priests like him, the Church would not be in such a dire condition. I am still waiting to hear a homily by the priests in my parish of the Brooklyn diocese that would dare to mention the killing of the most vulnerable, the unborn. Let us not forget it is the bishop's duty to be a true shephard.

We, too, have a priest (from Nigeria) at our parish in Arizona who speaks TRUTH and is not afraid to do so. He received a terrible verbal tongue-lashing from an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion on Sunday because the priest asked for silence in and around the sacristy prior to Mass. He was told that many people don't like him and are leaving our parish because of him and what he says/teaches. Father was so visibly upset that he couldn't give his prepared homily and he rushed through Mass almost breaking down. He was back again in good form this morning! Praised be to God! This is what happens when the clergy and hierarchy turn everything over to the laity. This is laity clericalism of the first order! They get obsessive and arrogant and think they are running the Church! But, in the final analysis, it is the fault of our bishops who have allowed this sort of thing to happen. Must not upset the laity!!! This time, the "cool it" is coming from all those people who crowd up our Lord's sanctuary.

Bless you Fr. Perozich for your words. I know alot of people are angry and saddened by the world today. We are losing our ablity to trust and, therefore, judging others to harshly. The simple acts of caring for our neighbor in these times of trouble may turn the world into a happier and positive society. Then, maybe more people will see the need to protect all life even at the most weakess, the unborn.

I've sat here for 5 minutes trying to decide what to say about this bishop. I don't understand why bishops are so out of touch with their people. I started to say, 'Lead their people', but the bishops today don't lead at all. If one leads and expects people to follow, one must display a good example, but this bishop has failed on a massive scale.

One journalist who covered the U.S. Bishops meeting following the presidential election stated that from what he heard at the meeting around 40 % of the bishops voted for Obama. How can this be. The shepards of our faith, supporting by their vote, one who is probably the greatest threat to the as yet born. These same bishops have returned to their dioceses and are certainly not likely to exercise their responsiblity to denounce this president as a threat to life that he is.

Please support your priests. As a former priest of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in the Imperial Valley, Fr. Perozich preached truth and modeled Christianity.

If the bishops had spoken out united and forcefully that supporting the most pro abortion candidate in history put a voters soul at grave risk with some fire, this poor priest would not now have to carry the fire for them. They cooled it and he now must try to help those lost to find Christ and heal their souls. Father, I know you have to obey your bishop, but there seems to be room about what cooling it means. I plan to write to the bishop asking him to have a little more strength in our battle with pure evil.

Thank you Father for speaking the truth! Isn't it time that true Catholic's stand up and proclaim the faith. We must protect the unborn, we must protect our nation from evil, both from within and without. We must be willing to tell the leaders of our naton that we are not going to tolerate the immoral actions that are constantly being forced on us. The Bishops and Priest in our church must be willing to confront the evil and not be fearfull of the government's response. Do we want to continue to be a tax exempt entity or do we want to speak and teach the word of our Lord? Catholic's can no longer be netrual in our belief. If over 50% of Catholics voted for a pro-abortion president then they are NOT living their faith and like Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, etc. they should be forbidden to participate in Communion!

Posted Wednesday, February 25, 2009 1:09 PM By Al Wunsch
M. Ziegler, you profess the same heresy that the Pelosi, Kennedy,Leahy et al are pushing. Just as you misquoted what McCain said regarding the 100 years, you have been mislead by the social justice crowd that try to justify the support for abortion by saying we make up for it by tending to the poor. Many more deaths have been committed here and now, thanks to Obama by overturning the Mexico City ban, in 3rd world countries than by war. Listen to what the Church has said - Abortion trumps the social justice issues. As Pope John Paul II said, what good does the welfare programs etc do for those in the womb who will never live to use it? What President Obama and the democrats in congress are doing is moving this country in a direction of moral degradation of society. Open your eyes. President Obama is a likeable and very elequent speaker but look not at his words, but at what he and the congress are doing.

M. Ziegler wrote, "I am a daily Mass goer and I voted for Obama." Talk about an Oxymoron. Jumbo, Shrimp, Mass,Obama. If the foundation is weak and flawed then all other things that follow will collapse. What kind of a Catholic votes for such an amoral man and still considers themselves a faith based person. Life is from God and it is sacred. That one issue should be enough to nullify all else. You are being deceived by the devil if you think Obama is a good leader. Jane Kosco, I will pray for your pastor. He sounds like a good man as many of the African priests are. One small African country, perhaps it was Nigeria -- I can't remember -- told the U.S. to keep their money because it required that they fund abortions. They said it was against their culture. Good for them. They also have their saintly heroes, St. Charles Lwanga and companions who were martyred for telling a homosexual king he was wrong for molesting his pages and for refusing his advances.

I think we are doing nothing more than making speeches for each other. This bishop won't be any different, nor does he care about how we feel. This is how out of touch the bishops are with the laity. If Bishop Brom cares about our concerns, he should post a statement on this site, or make a public statement. We are not trouble makers or a howling mob trying to bring down the Church. We are Good and Faithful Catholics trying to save the Church. And if the bishps don't care what we say here, then they don't care about any of the Faithful. Someone mentioned a while back that we should write to Rome. I agree. Flood the Holy Father with respectful e-mails about what is happening here. He has shown he truly cares about us and, he will, respond.

As a parishoner at St. Mary's, I can tell you that our parish is becoming a beacon for those who wish to be preached to about the true teachings of our faith. Having just returned from a trip to Rome, icluding Ash Wednesday Mass celebrated by the Holy Father, it bears pondering... would Pope Benedict have asked Fr. Rich to "cool it"? I think not, which is why the cardinals chose a man, like his predecessor, who is unafraid to take a firm stand on moral teachings to lead our church. Thank God our beloved pastor, Fr. Rich, does too!
