“No-brainer”

Utility firm’s support for same-sex marriage could cost it some customers

Though many are likely unaware that the law permits it, customers of a Northern California public utility that donated $250,000 toward the defeat of Proposition 8 can change providers in protest if they want.

After San Francisco based Pacific Gas & Electric made the large donation to the No on 8 campaign, thousands of the company’s frustrated customers expressed their outrage in the form of emails, letters and comments on various blogs. But a California public interest law firm that fights for conservative causes put its legal researchers to work and found another way for pro-marriage customers of PG&E to fight back: cancel natural gas service from the company.

“All residential and non-residential consumers can choose an alternative natural gas provider that does not agree with PG&E's controversial positions and actions,” says the Pacific Justice Institute in a statement posted to its web site. “In addition, it was also uncovered that alternative providers, year over year, have reported saving their customers up to 15% off their natural gas bill compared to PG&E.”

"There is no reason why pro-marriage homes, small businesses, corporations, apartment owners, schools or churches should continue to support a company like PG&E that is so opposed to the preservation of marriage," said Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute. "When one also realizes the large historic savings for those who switch, this really becomes a no-brainer. It is just a matter of getting out the information to the many who are simply unaware of their rights under law."

To switch today from PG&E to another natural gas provider, go to www.NOtoPGE.com.

Change your gas provider and save money. Businesses respond to hits in their pocketbook.

Great! Nothing hurts a company more than making a dent in its bottom line. PG&E (Promoting Godlessness & Evil) needs to stick to selling gas instead of promoting perversion that turns the sacrament of marriage between one man and one woman into the sacrilege of sodomite marriage.

My wife and I moved from Ohio about four months ago to care for my wife's aged parents in Sacramento. In Ohio you can switch providers, but the primary provider still makes money off the transmission of the gas or electricity (at least in Ohio). In Ohio they cannot make a profit of the cost of the natuarl gas or electricity. The profit is made from transmission and other things. If that would be the case here then PGE would still receive money for the transmission of NG or electricity no matter who you buy it from In Ohio the major utilities were in favor of de regulation because they make money of the transmission. Maybe we need a law that would prevent utilities from donating money to political campaigns. VTW the independants in Ohio were more costly .

PG&E There should be a law in California that would forbid a public utility to donate to a proposition on the ballot. Yes I do recommend that its customers change to an alternate supplier of natural gas. I did so a few months ago, not knowing I would be opposing PG&E. And by so doing, you will save money--not a lot but enough to make PG&E take notice.

There is one provider ... the others are merely brokers.

Posted Friday, September 05, 2008 2:58 PM By John Feeney
Normally, brokers pay much less to the provider than a consumer. In that case, going through a broker would cost PG&E

PG&E is the only provider in San Francisco, I guess the Bishop's will using candles at the evening mass! Vote NO on eight!!

Does anyone have information on how we can find alternative suppliers in our area?

Solar panels on your roof and a wood stove.

It sounds like PG&E had a major short circuit outage. Yes it's time for a new least expensive natural gas provider or really do go green as the September 5, 2008 blogger PR says, "Solar panels on your roof and a wood stove." After all this is California that's always ahead of the rest of the country with new trends. PR you really are on to something good.

Joe on the Central Coast ... perhaps you or someone in PG&E territory could write the CA State PUC and get an answer to your question.

Don't just tantalize us. Tell us how! This story should have been researched a bit more before it was published. EDITOR'S REPLY: The follwing link was provided in boldface at the end of the story: To switch today from PG&E to another natural gas provider, go to www.NOtoPGE.com.

The provider is Tiger Natural Gas. They just seem to be providing themselves as an alternate provider. They say they can save you a bit of money over PG&E. MAy be worth a try.
