Planned Parenthood Director Quits

After Watching Abortion Ultrasound

Editor: The following post is from the Hot Air website on November 2.

After eight years working at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas, including two years as its director, Abby Johnson suddenly decided that she could no longer participate in abortions. What pushed Johnson out was both an ultrasound of an abortion and a renewed emphasis on the cash-generating business in the failing economy. After being told to deemphasize prevention and market for abortions, Johnson finally had enough:

According to Johnson, the non-profit was struggling under the weight of a tough economy, and changing its business model from one that pushed prevention, to one that focused on abortion.

“It seemed like maybe that’s not what a lot of people were believing any more because that’s not where the money was. The money wasn’t in family planning, the money wasn’t in prevention, the money was in abortion and so I had a problem with that,” said Johnson.

Johnson said she was told to bring in more women who wanted abortions, something the Episcopalian church goer recently became convicted about. …

Johnson now supports the Coalition For Life, the pro-life group with a building down the street from Planned Parenthood. Coalition volunteers can regularly be seen praying on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood. Johnson has been meeting with the coalition’s executive director, Shawn Carney, and has prayed with volunteers outside Planned Parenthood.

The television station has video of Johnson’s interview at the link, so be sure to watch it.

What was the reaction of Planned Parenthood? They sued Johnson and the Coalition for Life and filed restraining orders against both. They claim that Johnson and the CFL wanted to breach the confidentiality of their clients, but nothing in the KBTX report indicates that Johnson had any such intention. In fact, Johnson was unaware of the suit when KBTX’s report went to air last night.

Abby Johnson deserves to be welcomed to the fold of those who are against the murder of pre-born human beings. She surely represents others who are working in such places and who have conflicts about the most hideous aspects of the clinics' work. How we treat her, whether we choose to denounce her for her past or support her in the future, will be noticed by others. Let us remember we are Christians and act in the manner taught to us by Jesus. Let us celebrate that one person has bravely chosen a difficult path and do all we can to encourage defection to our side. This is an important moment in time, and to continue to win the hearts and minds of the general public, we must act with dignity, compassion, and open arms to one who now sees the light.

MARCH OF DIMES CALLED LAST NIGHT. WHEN CONFRONTED ABOUT THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD, THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT DONATIONS WERE NEVER MADE EXCEPT TO HELP PRENATAL CONDITIONS. I OFFERED A GENEROUS CONTRIBUTION, IF THEY COULD SHOW JUST ONE CASE WHERE THEY COULD BE SURE OF WHAT "PP" HAD DONE EXCEPT ABORT. NO TAKERS!!

Well said, Maryanne. Indeed we should embrace those who regret their abortions and those like Abby Johnson. Their testimonies would go a longer way toward sending abortion back to hell where it came from.

Welcome home, Abby! Your conversion is truly a sign of Prayer at work! Maranatha!

Many of the "kind-sounding" medical charities are giving to PP without telling anyone because they are being pushed by other liberal groups! (I know who they are, but the editor would probably edit it out!) The bottom line is that the ONLY way to ensure that NONE of your money is going to PP is to give it directly to pro-life groups, like you state's pro-life organization, Priests for Life, ALL, or other qualified groups. I spoke with my uncle, who is an OB/GYN in California, and he told me that he gets tremendous pressure from the AMA and other medical groups to perform abortions. He refuses. He told me that the money is HUGE! They offer all kinds of "incentives" to perform abortions. When it comes down to it, this article is right...It is ALL about money/greed!

There is a wonderful organization, Rachael's Vineyard, that helps women recover from an abortion. We need to do many things including (1) supporting girls with "crisis" pregnancies, (2) helping women who have had an abortion, (3) educating the public about the abortion industry and their lies and distortions as well as the religious issues, and (4) educating and supporting our young people to remain celibate until marriage by showing the it's possible! (We need to overcome the negative press that claims that it is impossible! It was the norm 50 years ago!)

God bless Abby Johnson!! Let's continue to pray & sacrifice that there'll be a FLOOD of Abby Johnsons fleeing the rat-infested ship that IS Planned Parenthood. One day PP will only be a GHASTLY NIGHTMARE that infested the 20th & 21st centuries, and that deluded MILLIONS of Americans, (especially women) with their murderous propaganda that young girls were only "doing away" with "clumps of tissue" when they aborted their preborn children. What unspeakable FRAUDS they are!! Along these lines, am I mistaken that I thought I heard about Faye Wattleton also leaving PP ? Can anyone confirm that out there in your readership? Thanx & GOD BLESS ALL- Markrite

Abqdad, I am old enough to remember when abortion was illegal, and the majortiy of Americans respected life and marriage. Teens killing each other and their principals and teachers were unheard of back then. Some changes are good, but abortion was not one of them.

This gives me much joy! I praise Jesus with all my heart! Now lets shed more truth to others in planned parenthood or any abortion clinic and help more have a conversion as well.
