“Vandalism of a heinous nature”
Police investigating desecration at Catholic school in Maywood as likely hate crime
Vandals broke into and ransacked St. Rose of Lima parish school in Maywood, a small city in Los Angeles County, scrawling “666” on walls and driving a knife into the face of a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department reports.
“On Monday, May 24, 2010, Maywood Officers responded to the Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church School (4430 W. 60th Street) on a vandalism call at that location,” police said in a statement. “Upon arrival, officers saw that a suspect(s) had broken into the kitchen area and caused extensive vandalism damage.”
Police gave no estimate of damages, but did provide additional details of the extent and nature of the vandalism. “Further investigation revealed that some of the vandalism was of a heinous nature, and in fact, consistent with a ‘hate crime,’" said the police statement.
“The suspect(s) defecated in the auditorium (adjacent to the kitchen area) and wrote ‘666’ on areas of the kitchen, and a cross was displayed in a sacrilegious manner,” police said.
Photos posted on the department’s website showed ransacked cabinet drawers strewn across the floor along with their contents, and what appeared to be food splattered against the back of a stove area, where a cross had been placed upside down atop the stove.
“The Maywood-Cudahy Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in solving this investigation,” said the police statement. “If you have any information, please call the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department Detective Bureau at (323) 562-5005. The handling investigator is Detective Fierro.”
The incident in Maywood is the latest in a series of attacks against Catholic churches in California over the last few years. Just days before Christmas 2009, vandals knocked over and smashed into pieces a 60-year-old statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary outside Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Woodland – the third time since 2007 the church had been the target of similar crimes.
In April 2009, just hours before Easter services were to commence, a vandal or vandals decapitated a statue of the Blessed Virgin outside Santa Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, the parish where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, are members.
In early January last year, vandals spray-painted swastikas and the message “Niederauer, Ratzinger – where is the love” on the front walls of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in San Francisco.
In late October of 2008, a ciborium containing consecrated hosts was removed from a locked tabernacle and stolen during a burglary at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watsonville. The thieves also stole a safe that had been bolted to the floor containing $44,400 in cash and checks.

Lord, help us to have the courage of the martyrs during this new period of persecution of your Church.

The Catholic League is still needed. The last acceptable prejudice in America is against the Catholic Church and its members.

I wonder why there is no outcry from the larger community as there is when Jewish synagogues and homes are desecrated by vandals. With all the fingerprints that must be left around, why is it that we don't hear about the police apprehending the criminals?

My heart cries for the vandals who did this terrible action against the Catholic Church and its people. I feel sorry that these vandal do not know Jesus and His Blessed Mother, who love them no matter what sin they may have commited. I pray that the Holy Spirit will touch their hearts and they repent before it's too late.

This type of crime would seem to be the kind that white supremists would commit. It certainly could not be committed by Mexicans since it is inconceivable that a Mexican would desecrate Our Lady of Guadalupe.

I always remember John 15:18-20 at times like these.
If the world stops hating us then we have lost our mission which is to testify to the truth.

The cencacle itself in Jerusalem is even now often and horribly desecrated by thugs who are merely demoniacs. The fallen angels pull the strings of weak souls. This is less about the human hands that did this and more about the power of legion. Oh, but we don't talk about that nowadays. Modern Western man is ashamed to admit to anything metaphysical.

Please, offer up prayers and sacrifices for these horrible acts committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred of Jesus. And ask God to please be merciful to us sinners. And though we deserve God's just and divine wrath: to please don't give us what we truely deserve. Lord God, have mercy on us and Jesus, I Trust In You.

I am so sorry for the evil building in our world. Let us all pray for the sick people who do not know the Lord. Poor things.

I think we all suspect who is doing much of this. There have been desecrations in Northern California also. They cannot get their way, so they seek to intimidate. It has been done to some Protestant churches in the Bay Area in the past also. It could be the KKK, but I doubt it. Anyway, God will deal with them in His own way. No one really gets away with anything. They only think they do.

Why is this not classified as a hate crime?

Satan is working hard to destroy the Catholic Church, but he knows it is futile. The True Church of Jesus Christ will prevail against the enemy. The Imaculate Heart of Mary will triumph in the end.

I think we need to go back and remember history, and what happened to the Jewish populations in Europe. Hate causes this. It has begun now in this country.

Christ wept over Jerusalem. The pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima weeps as she travels around the world (Ex. New Orleans). Christ's words; "Jerusalem, Jerusalem if thou hast known what in this thy day the things that are for your peace.
To learn what Mary says about our times and tribulations read the story of Fatima and the three children (1917). She has a peace plan.

These crimes mentioned above are despicable and all of the posts above are correct in their descriptions of demonic activity. It's only going to get worse before it gets better. This is all happening in 'enlightened' California, eh? One question crosses my mind. . .HAVE YOU FOLKS EVER HEARD OF motion activated VIDEO CAMERAS? Many Churches here have them. . .you could probably get enough funding in a 'second collection' on any given Sunday. . .

I pray for the conversion of all sinners and may our Lord touch the hearts of these vandals and bring them to true contrition. St. Paul persecuted the Christians at one time, there may be hope for these vandals. Lets send a bouquet of prayers their way for their conversion.

Laurette,
The downstairs room of the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles once featured an "art exhibiit" of Our Lady of Guadalupe NUDE! It certainly could be committed by Mexicans. The ones who murdered Blessed Miguel Pro were not Anglos!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,

Bernadette, they now have video cameras at at least one of the Catholic churches in Northern Californa which was vandalized. I suspect the other one has them too. Another Catholic church, which I do not think has been vandalized, has cameras throughout most of the church itself. It is a sad fact of life that this has to be done.

Actually, there have been more than two Catholic churches vandalized in the North, but the two I mentioned were vandalized repeatedly. I do not know about the others.

This is hitting too close to home, I graduated from St. Rose of Lima, Maywood in 1953, and I thank God for the orthodox priests and nuns who taught me there. Both my mother and my father were buried from there and all my sisters were married there.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts.
